Home / Private law / Deadlines for purchasing train tickets 2021

As always, we will try to answer the question “Terms for purchasing train tickets 2021.” You can also consult with lawyers for free online directly on the website without leaving your home.

The amount you will receive for returned tickets directly depends on how many hours are left before the train departure: No later than 8 hours before the train departure = Full price - refund fee Less than 8 hours, but no later than 2 hours before train departure = Full cost - 50% of the cost of a reserved seat - refund fee Less than 2 hours before train departure = Full cost - 100% of the cost of a reserved seat - return fee Within 3 hours from the moment of departure = Full cost — 100% of the cost of a reserved seat — return fee

Train schedule

The only company providing long-distance rail passenger transportation in Russia is Russian Railways. Of course, trains move along routes strictly according to a specific schedule. The time of departure and arrival of the train must be indicated on the ticket.

A train schedule in the Russian Federation is being developed, taking into account the fact that it should ensure:

  • travel safety;
  • passenger convenience;
  • efficient use of site capacity;
  • compliance with the working hours of locomotive crews;
  • possibility of timely repair of railway tracks.

How long does it take to board the train: Russian Railways requirements

At intermediate stations, conductors usually open the vestibules immediately after the train arrives and comes to a complete stop. All the departing passengers need to do in this case is to wait until the arriving passengers leave the train.

At the departure station, things are a little different. Even if the train has already arrived at the platform, unfortunately, it will not be possible to board it ahead of time. In order to take your seat, you must wait until the station announces boarding over the loudspeaker. Previously, according to current regulations, conductors simply did not have the right to let passengers into carriages.

What time does it take to board a long-distance train? According to the current Russian Railways rules, passengers can take their seats in the carriage within 30 minutes. before the train departs. In most cases, this standard is observed by railway employees. But the train schedule at train stations, for example, in large cities, can be very tight. Therefore, sometimes boarding a train can be announced 20 or, for example, 40 minutes in advance. before departure. In any case, passengers should focus primarily on 30 minutes.

Purchasing tickets at the station

Most passengers are accustomed to going to the ticket office, because the method is proven and reliable. The train ticket is purchased directly from the carrier, which means you do not have to pay a commission. Insurance is enabled by default. But if you prefer to give it up for the sake of a little savings, warn the cashier.

The disadvantage of this method is that those living far from the station have to spend money on transport. Of course, wait in line. But is it cheaper to buy tickets at the station? Yes, but only for those who have free time, can get there without spending money, or do not particularly trust modern technologies.

When does boarding end?

You should arrive at the station no later than 30 minutes in advance. before departure, when boarding the train begins. How long before the train leaves the station does this procedure end? In 5 min. Before the train departs, conductors usually ask passengers to take their seats in accordance with the tickets they purchased. Starting from this time, the mourners must also leave the carriage.

Passengers must wait at least 5 minutes to board the train. before departure. But in the event of force majeure, it will, of course, be possible to take your place in the carriage later. The departure of a train at the station is usually announced over the loudspeaker 2 minutes in advance. That is, after such a notification, a latecomer can still try to run to the carriage.

Recommendations about the time of arrival at the station

So, we found out how long it takes to board the train. But at what time should a passenger arrive at the station? Of course, you should never be late for the train. Trains usually move on the railways of our country strictly according to schedule. But no one wants to sit at the station for too long.

A traveler who has purchased a train ticket should calculate the time of departure from home more carefully. Among other things, the future passenger should take into account the schedule of the transport on which he plans to get to the station. It is imperative to take into account possible traffic jams. This is especially true for residents of large cities.

So how much time should you arrive at the station? Most travelers consider the optimal time of arrival at the departure station to be 1 hour before the train departs. While waiting for your train at the station, you can buy drinks, food, sweets, souvenirs, etc.

According to the rules, trains cannot leave the platforms ahead of schedule. But when deciding how much time to arrive at the railway. or a bus station, you should still play it safe. In any case, you should definitely arrive at the station half an hour before the train departs.

Discounts on tickets

  • Discount on train tickets for birthdays. Valid for 7 days before the name day and 7 days after, and its amount can reach 35%.
  • Discount on some seats on the train (for example, on the upper bunks). The size can reach 30 -40% of the ticket price.

Rules for obtaining the right to preferential travel on trains:

Every year the company organizes various promotions, thanks to which you can purchase train tickets at reduced prices. Most often, these types of promotions are held on holidays. For example, on May 9, Russian Railways can sell tickets for pensioners at reduced prices for traveling within the country.

If the train runs from Kaliningrad to any city in Russia and back, ticket sales open 90 days in advance at 8:00 Moscow time. You can issue a travel pass for commuter trains 10 days in advance.

Before traveling by train, you need to resolve a number of important issues: choose the optimal route, choose the date and time of departure, class of carriage, book a convenient seat, etc. Tickets for popular destinations sell out very quickly, so it is better to issue a travel document in advance. We will tell you how many days in advance you can buy train tickets.

How many days in advance does the sale of train tickets begin?

For most domestic Russian trains, ticket sales open 90 days before the train's departure date. For some destinations the period is shorter - 60 days. You can buy train tickets both through the railway ticket office and online. To get reliable information, call the Russian Railways hotline or contact the station ticket office.

We are talking about the so-called regulated segment. It includes reserved seat and general carriages as the most budget-friendly and socially significant option for traveling long distances by rail. Russian Railways must coordinate changes in the cost of such tickets with the FAS.

With regard to compartment and SV cars, the main thing to remember is that the table of seasonal coefficients will be relevant in approximately five percent of cases. The cost of 95% of tickets for such carriages is formed using a dynamic pricing system. This system is actually an electronic auction. It automatically takes into account a large number of factors (demand for tickets on specific dates, the number of days remaining before the trip, day of the week and time of day at departure or arrival, etc.) and sets the price for the ticket. Seasonal coefficients do not apply.

Seasonal changes in tariffs in reserved seat and general carriages in 2021

Tickets for compartments and SVs will increase in price by the same 3.5%. This is Russian Railways’ own decision. True, in this case we are talking only about those tickets that do not participate in the dynamic pricing program. This is only five percent of the total.

Within its framework, Russian teenagers can enjoy the right to discounted travel during the summer holidays. Discounts for schoolchildren on train tickets this year will again be provided in the summer - Russian Railways have confirmed the promotion for this year.

*Discount is provided on the fare (except China, North Korea and Mongolia). For a child traveling without a seat, a cash-free travel document is issued on trains in communication with the CIS and Baltic countries, Abkhazia, France and Germany, the Czech Republic, Austria, Poland, Italy, Finland. For a child under 4 years old/5 years old/6 years old, you can optionally issue a child ticket with a seat.

How to save money when traveling in a reserved seat

The discount is available for the period from January 1 to June 15. A discount ticket is provided upon presentation of a document confirming the status of a student or full-time student. Discounts on the upper berths of long-distance trains were abolished in the year. Read more about benefits for students.

Having opened the Russian Railways website (I repeat that registration on the website is NOT required for this), click on the calendar opposite “There” (2 in Fig. 2). You need to make sure that the date there is today. Otherwise, you need to select the date today on the calendar.

What do you need to show the conductor?

The answer to the question of how long before the train departure begins boarding the carriage at the initial station is, therefore, 30 minutes. Russian Railways passengers, of course, need to arrive at stations on time. But it is equally important to take with you everything you need to board the train. According to the current rules, passenger conductors do not have the right to let passengers into carriages without presenting a passport. This document must not only be taken with you on the trip, but also put in a place where it can be quickly retrieved when boarding is announced.

In addition to your passport, upon entering the carriage, a Russian Railways client will need to present a ticket to the conductor. There is no need to show any other documents to the railway employee upon boarding. The only thing is that if a person boards the train with a pet, he will also need to show certificates from a veterinarian about the latter’s health.

E-tickets

Of course, all Russian Railways clients should know the answer to the question of how many minutes before boarding a train begins. This company, despite the fact that it is essentially a monopolist, does everything possible to make it convenient for passengers to use the railway.

Many people buy travel documents that give them the right to travel on Russian Railways trains the old-fashioned way - at the ticket office at the station. But recently, more and more clients of this company prefer not to waste time, but simply purchase tickets via the Internet. Travel documents are also sold on the official website of Russian Railways.

The convenience of purchasing tickets via the Internet lies, among other things, in the fact that the future passenger in this case sees a diagram of the carriage with occupied and empty seats. Shelves with numbers are illuminated in a certain way. That is, a Russian Railways client, when purchasing a ticket on the website, has the opportunity to choose the most convenient place for him, both in terms of location and cost.

The convenience of using electronic tickets, among other things, lies in the fact that in this case the passenger has the right to show only his passport to the conductor upon entering the carriage. Boarding and departure times can be viewed at any time in your personal account on the Russian Railways website in the form of a ticket.

For those who are not well versed on the Internet, the Russian Railways document giving the right to travel can, of course, be printed out. This will be easy to do at the ticket office or through a special terminal at the station. In this case, you can always see when the train leaves without visiting the Russian Railways website. Having this information and knowing how long it takes to board a Russian Railways train, you will be able to arrive at the station on time.

Currently, you can buy an e-ticket for Russian Railways either through a computer or a smartphone.

How to catch a cheap ticket for a Russian Railways train: secrets and tips

Although we wrote at the beginning of the article that it is possible to travel cheaply by train in Russia even during peak seasons, tickets still become significantly cheaper in the off-season. And if you still have such an opportunity, then adjust your travel dates to the most advantageous dates. At different times of the year, the cost of tickets for the same Russian Railways train will differ. As a rule, travel is cheaper from November to March (with the exception of New Year's holidays, on these days ticket prices are sky-high). In summer, ticket prices rise up to 20%.

The second secret of how to buy Russian Railways train tickets cheaply: buy online!

Let's start with a basic thing that is always worth remembering - this is that you need to buy and plan your train trip in advance . But, if you still had to buy tickets urgently, then focus on seated carriages on flights with low demand.

From December 2021, train tickets for all trains are sold 60 days before the departure date. As a rule, the principle works: the sooner, the cheaper. Almost all Russian Railways trains have dynamic pricing - the ticket price changes depending on the season, day of the week and traffic volumes.

It is only necessary to note that the final price of a non-refundable ticket will also be influenced by factors such as the type of train and date of travel. As you know, there are periods when the demand for tickets increases significantly. This affects prices, which also begin to creep up.

How long does it take to return a train ticket without loss 2020

In the field of railway transport, non-refundable tickets appeared thanks to the adopted amendments. They allowed the sale of non-refundable tickets from January 1, 2021. According to the Federal Passenger Company, the first non-refundable tickets will go on sale after January 20. However, at the first stage such tickets will be available only in 1-2 directions.

  • a minor error in the form of an incorrect letter in the surname or numbers in the personal document number does not require replacement of the ticket. Also, inaccuracies in the date of birth are not given much importance. It is important that if the category of the travel document that determines its price is incorrectly indicated (for example, a child ticket or an adult ticket), correction is required here;
  • a large number of inaccuracies or serious errors in the travel document require re-issuance. To do this, you need to choose one of two options: visit the station ticket office, presenting your passport and order details (coupon). The cashier must issue a new ticket, but you will have to pay the cost of this service. It is 223 rubles. 70 k. The rules allow you to change data only in tickets of JSC FPC, but in practice there are exceptions. You should check with the cashier if this option is available. The second option is to contact the train conductor directly before departure. He has the right to make corrections using a special terminal in the staff car. The conductor will have to pay 200 rubles;
  • If the ticket contains a large number of errors and does not allow identification of personal data, it should be returned. This can be done using the website or through the cashier.

If we are talking about using an electronic wallet, then the money is credited within 10 to 60 days. If the ticket was purchased on the basis of a gift certificate, the citizen receives a new certificate, the amount of which is determined by the withholding of Russian Railways funds for canceling the trip.

When will the money be returned?

A ticket purchased through the box office must be returned in the same way. But if the travel document was issued using an online resource, there are two options. The rules allow you to return an unnecessary ticket to the ticket office by specifying the electronic registration details and presenting your passport. It is also possible to cancel a trip through the Russian Railways website.

Two people per seat

Situations where two tickets are sold for the same seat are rare. But sometimes, of course, this can happen. In this case, the conductor is obliged to let both passengers onto the train if they show him their tickets and passports.

Next, one of the travelers will most likely be asked by the railroad employee to sit and wait while he sorts out the confusion. According to the rules, the conductor must find such a passenger a free seat in the same or in another carriage. At the same time, railway employees are required to apologize to the client for the inconvenience caused.

Who may not be allowed into the carriage?

Now it’s clear how many minutes it takes to board the train. At the initial station, Russian Railways customers can enter the carriage in approximately 30 minutes. before departure. But will the passenger encounter any obstacles when boarding if he has a passport and ticket?

If both of these documents are present, the passenger conductor has no right to not allow the passenger into the carriage. Exceptions to this rule may be the following cases:

  • the person is very drunk;
  • a passenger resists boarding the carriage (for example, an old grandmother with an escort);
  • the data from the ticket and passport do not match (typos);
  • the person’s passport has expired;
  • an unaccompanied child tries to board the train;
  • The man is very dirty and smells bad.

In all these cases, the conductor can call the train manager to clarify the situation. This official usually makes the decision about the possibility of landing.

In some cases, a person who decides to transport a pet may not be allowed on the train. This can happen not only when the passenger does not have a certificate from a veterinarian. If you want to transport your pet on a train, you should only buy a ticket for the carriage in which this is allowed. On the Russian Railways website, such cars are marked in a special way.

Is it possible to board at other stations?

Sometimes it happens that for some reason a passenger cannot board the train at the station indicated on the ticket. Is it possible to board your carriage in this case at another station along the route of the train? Theoretically, the rules of Russian Railways, unfortunately, prohibit this. In the event that the passenger does not take his seat in the carriage within 30 minutes. after leaving the departure station, it, according to the rules, can be sold to another person.

This railway standard has been in effect since USSR times. To date, no one has canceled it. But in our time, the work of Russian Railways is also regulated by various kinds of decrees issued specifically to improve convenience. And according to one of them, the paid seat must remain with the passenger until the end of the trip. Thus, with regard to the possibility of boarding a train at a station other than one’s own, Russian Railways has a somewhat contradictory situation.

Which trains are subject to additional discounts?

High speed trains

“Swallows” and “Sapsan” also have a dynamic pricing system. The cost changes automatically, that is, Friday and Monday flights, when people go on vacation or return home, are more expensive than daytime flights on weekdays. Economy class sells out faster, so tickets in it quickly increase in price. Consider business locations: they are often more profitable.

There are additional ways to save:

  1. 50% discount on birthday. The birthday boy can go on a trip at a reduced cost seven days before his birthday and seven days after it. The discount also applies to three of his friends. You won't be able to buy tickets online - you can only buy them at the Russian Railways ticket office with the birthday boy's passport. It is not necessary to bring him with you.
  2. Age discounts. Children under 10 years old are ready to discount 70% of the cost, youth under 21 years old - 30%, pensioners over 60 years old - also 30%. The price is calculated automatically after filling in the data when purchasing.
  3. Electronic and road maps. This invention is for those who constantly move between Moscow and St. Petersburg. An electronic card for a month costs 1,000 rubles, a travel plastic card costs 3,000 for 12 months, and you can earn 10% from each trip on the Sapsan. If you take the cheapest basic tickets for 2,500 rubles, then the annual road map will pay for itself after the 12th trip. It makes sense to buy an electronic one if you travel more than four times a month.

General Tips

In international transportation, Russian Railways faces competition and offers more discounts in the fight for each passenger:

  • when purchasing 45–60 days in advance - 10%;
  • on the top shelves - 5%;
  • newlyweds - 35% in first class and luxury compartments;
  • birthday people - 35%;
  • children under 12 years old - 50%;
  • youth under 25 and people over 60 - 30%;
  • groups of travelers from two people - 20%.

But even with discounts, tickets are still expensive and are suitable only for incurable aerophobes. For example, a Moscow-Paris coupe costs 24,261 rubles on March 5, and a round-trip flight on the same day will cost 12,039 rubles.

Rates for domestic and international shipping vary widely, and the price skyrockets once you cross the border. Traveling by train can be truly profitable in three countries: Belarus, Ukraine and Lithuania. But even here you won’t be able to limit yourself to buying one ticket. Due to the difference in tariffs for travel in Russia and abroad, it is better to split the route to Belarusian and Ukrainian cities into two sections and take a ticket:

  • to the first station after the border - on the Russian Railways website;
  • from this station to the final one - on the website of the railway company of another country.

Domestic tariffs in any country are always lower than international ones.

Let's say we are traveling from Moscow to Brest. A compartment ticket on the Russian Railways website costs from 6,156 rubles - this is expensive. We look at the train route and choose the first station after the border. In our case, this is Orsha.

The Moscow-Orsha compartment on the Russian Railways website for the same train costs 3,769 rubles. Now we need to get to Brest. To do this, we don’t even have to get out of the car. We can buy a second ticket for the same train and in the same compartment on the website of the Belarusian carrier. A compartment on the route Orsha - Brest will cost 19.37 Belarusian rubles - that's about 600 rubles.

Nesterovsky train

This is the name of the train that goes from Moscow to Kaliningrad in transit through Lithuania. With its help, travelers usually get to Vilnius. In this case, you need to take a ticket not to Vilnius itself, but a little further - to Chernyshevsky - this is the station of the Nesterovsky district of the Kaliningrad region, thanks to which the train got its name.

An official ticket to the Lithuanian capital on March 1 costs from 4,657 rubles, and to Chernyshevsky - already 1,963 rubles. We take a ticket to the Russian station, but leave earlier - in Lithuania.

We return back according to the same scheme. The passenger has the right to board the train at any station after departure, so there should be no problems with the conductors.

What travel can teach you

Why do people travel? Is it really just to take a 2-week break from work, spend the money accumulated over six months and create the illusion that “they can afford it”?

You look up from the couch.

Thinking about the upcoming voyage, we begin to worry about the difficulties that await tourists. We are worried that we will not find a place to stay for the night, that we will not be able to communicate with the residents of another country in our broken English. What do travel teach? Because all the fears listed above are in vain. Gather your courage, put aside your worries, focus on your goal and hit the road. It is a mistake to think that traveling is either a “round the world” trip, where you burn all your bridges, or a package holiday, which limits you to an all-inclusive system. How much do you know about the surrounding areas of your city? About the life of residents of neighboring villages? Surely there are a lot of interesting things near you. Start discovering the world small.

Travel changes your worldview

The first thing he learns after visiting different countries is that exotic places are not as dangerous as they seem. You can feel comfortable in any city. This rule also applies to wildlife: by following basic safety rules, you are guaranteed to avoid trouble. Moreover, in a metropolis a person is more likely to die (for example, by being hit by a car) than in a desert or forest.

You will constantly expand your horizons

What are travels for? To get to know the world and get acquainted with the culture of other peoples. Don't worry about the friendliness of the people: the locals always treat travelers politely and try to help them. If you are not a Tagil fan, don’t spoil their heritage and don’t laugh at the culture of the country in which you are a guest, then traveling will definitely bring you new acquaintances and faith in people. Many people will be happy to provide you with an overnight stay, show you the way, and tell you about the interesting sights of their country.

You don't have to be a millionaire to see the world

Travel more and you will realize that you don't need to spend millions to do it. Big money is necessary only for those who dream of a sea cruise to exotic islands. Although, if you make friends with the locals, you can easily avoid these expenses. When organizing your travels yourself, you only need to have a small amount of cash to buy food, pay for transport and hotel rooms or places in hostels. Living in the latter, by the way, despite its cheapness, can give you a huge amount of experience and impressions.

Things are just things

First-time tourists consider it their duty to take 10 suitcases on the road with outfits for all occasions and full equipment in case of the end of the world. But over time, travel teaches that an abundance of luggage only gets in the way. A person on the road (as in life) needs a minimum of clothing, two pairs of shoes, hygiene products, money and documents. Once you start traveling, you will realize that you absolutely do not need most of the things you have, and you can painlessly get rid of them by freeing up space in your closet. The same applies to unnecessary emotions, unnecessary worries, uninteresting people and habitual obligations - by getting rid of such “junk”, you will make room for new things.

Find out the difference between a tourist and a traveler

Travelers and tourists are not the same thing. The first ones communicate with local residents, get acquainted with traditions, make new acquaintances, change their worldview and improve their lives. The latter fearfully glance at everything that is happening from the windows of the bus. Locals scam tourists out of money, and share food and shelter with travelers. Travel changes people and teaches them that they need to be simpler and not be afraid to learn new things, teach them to be open with others and appreciate every person who comes into life.

By leaving your usual environment, even for a short period of time, turn your life into a journey full of uncertainty, and you will be able to get to know yourself from the most unexpected sides.

Travel is not a vacation

You've probably heard more than once how traveling changes many people, making them stronger and more resilient. And you actively travel to Cyprus and Turkey, but you don’t notice any changes... And this is not because hiking in the mountains or tundra with a heavy backpack is a workout for the body. Not because in the most harmless resort city you can be left without money or find yourself in a difficult situation. It’s just that when you travel, you don’t set the goal of “lying down” under a palm tree, relieving stress from work or family. You change your lifestyle from the usual to an improved version of it. Traveling can be physically difficult, but it also relieves the mind. Therefore, they are not looking for physical relief; they provide much more than relaxed muscles.

You are your best friend and travel companion

Can't find travel companions to go on the road with a fun group? This will only benefit you. There is no better way to understand yourself, the world, determine life goals and cultivate fortitude than solo travel. Traveling alone is an incomparable experience. By relying only on your own strengths, you will begin to believe in yourself more and learn to make responsible decisions on your own. This will make it easier for you to meet new people, try unusual things and take on unfamiliar roles, since you won’t have to look up to anyone and won’t be afraid of anyone’s judgement.

It's a small world

Long journeys have changed the opinion of millions of people that our planet is vast. It only seems like this when you watch about other countries on TV. In reality, it is possible that you will meet your friends when you go to Cambodia, India or Kamchatka. Or, in a quiet, remote corner of the world, meet someone from your hometown. Travel more and don’t be afraid to communicate with people and look for new acquaintances. Perhaps one of the billions of people who will change your life will meet you in a place you never thought possible.
